Blogging is a new venture for me. I've never been on Friendster, Myspace, Facebook or any of the various online communities. I resisted getting a cell phone until after theBlackout of August 2003 and I just recently got an i-pod that sat in the box for three months before even opening it. I still refuse to listen to it on the subway. I'm a luddite. I admit it. So why start blogging? As a person with a disability (I was born with a mild form of cerebral palsy that effects my gait), I have never felt part of a 'community.' THEY say there is a 'community' of us out there but I have yet to see it. I have several communities in my life of family, friends, coworkers, artists, criminals and whores, but when it comes to identifying and feeling like I am part of a 'DISabled community,' I am at a loss. This saddens and frustrates me. I constantly grapple with my identity as a disabled individual and I thought I would create this blog in order to, at the very least, create a dialogue between myself and others either disabled or non-disabled that might help bring me/us closer to a better understanding of ourselves. I am not looking for answers. There are no answers. I want to know what questions I should be asking. I want to know what I can do to close the gap between ignorance and understanding. I don't want to feel like I have to do this alone. I'd also like to have some fun a long the way. I hope you'll join me.
